Weather Delay?

There is a belief in Kodiak that you don't truly live here until you have travel arrangements destroyed by the weather. We have so far missed snow storms (four feet of snow while we were in Hawaii) and 100 mile per hour winds with freezing rain which also happen frequently enough that airport delays are commonplace. We all finally arrived home Monday in time for lunch some 52 hours after our original plans because of the many eruptions of Mt. Redoubt, a volcano located between Kodiak and Anchorage. We finally got back on our 9th scheduled flight. While we were in Anchorage we could smell the burnt smell of the ash and got irritated throats and tongues from the falling ash, so much so that we bought some masks. We took the delay in good stride, rented a car and visited friends and were thankful that the delay didn't happen on our way to Hawaii. (Special thanks to Rob and Jana who housed us for a night and for the "Stupid Ash" photo, which is theirs. I found it rather by chance when I was happening to look through the Anchorage Daily News photo gallery and thought, huh, that looks a lot like what Rob had written outside their house. Further inspection showed that it was indeed their photo.)
